Located in the south-west of the island, at the foot of Punta Carena, dominated by the lighthouse, this picturesque bay is part of a typical Mediterranean landscape.
It is one of the only bays on the island where one can enjoy the sunset over the sea.
The Lighthouse, built a century and a half ago, is, after Genoa, the second in Italy in terms of size and power.
Although it is a rocky bay, it is nice to swim in its crystal clear waters. In addition, it is a relatively quiet place.
In Punta Carena, beside a public access to the sea, there are two bathing establishments, including the Lido del Faro beach facility and two typical snack bars that offer good sandwiches.
How to reach the Punta Carena Lighthouse
- By bus: line Faro – Anacapri
- By foot from Anacapri, following the Via Nuova del Faro. From Piazza Caprile. About 50 minutes.
Less than a kilometer before arriving at the lighthouse one can take a path and climb to the Torre della Guardia (Watchtower). A little further down the road to the lighthouse, one can take a path that leads to the fortino di Pino, where one can enjoy a beautiful panorama. On this path, you can also go down a path that joins the creek Cala del Limmo and Fortino del Cannone.
At the level of the trail leading to the Fortino del Pino, a path goes in the other direction and go down to the lighthouse.
